First things first: though I enjoyed this book and rated it 4 well deserved stars, I was kind of taken by surprise by the MF erotic scenes in here. I hadn't expected those and honestly didn't like them.But, having gotten that off my chest: I did like this short story. Very much.It's this author's debut and a very good one. There's something about the writing that pulls you in right away, something intriguing, and in only just over 100 pages, the author introduces us to five different men: two fathers and their sons and a lodger, staying with one of the families.This book is about coming of age, about discovering yourself and your sexuality, about growing up and seeing the people who've been around you all your life, differently. It's about coming out and preparing for the rest of your life. But it's also about grief (one family lost their mother/wife to cancer, the other family went through a divorce) and the author manages to make us feel those as well. What this book is not, is a romance.There's quite some erotic scenes in here, both MM, said FM and even FMM, but there is so much more to this book than those. They're a part of what this story is about; they're meaningful and necessary to the story, though I could have done without the female in this story. But that's all me, probably!I do hope this author will decide to write and publish some more, because I loved the flawless writing and am curious to see what they will come up with next. It isn’t easy to craft a story this erotic (and honest!) about male sexuality but the author has done an outstanding job. For a novella the characters have a surprising amount of depth and come across as very believable. I also enjoyed the mystery element that (for me at least) had an eerie vibe to it.Highly recommended.
