.............May contain spoilers......Can I say that this was my favorite start to one of this author's series? No, but I can say it was different, not a bad different , just different. Am I sorry I read it? Absolutely not. One thing I can point out that was different, was how weak the protagonist is. It's quite pathetic at times and I'm not used to that with this author, however, it just means that this character has leaps and bounds to grow and that is exciting. She has the potential to be a favorite character from Grey. Another difference is that Sadie's mate is human or at least part. That too is an exciting concept. There are so many possibilities at growth from this character. While they each fought their connection to each other, Grey didnt beat around the bush, with their bond. I loved that. So many times with this genre, that aspect seems to drag on for ages. I'm excited for Sadie's story to unfold. I actually feel like I cant give you an honest review because it's just getting started. I'll leave you with this. This storyline has so so much potential. Immediately, we discover that Sadie has been allowed, by her father, to attend Kortright University, a school that has its fair share of supernaturals in attendance, and her one stipulation is that she has to bring her intended - Brock - with her to watch out for her. Hers is that she gets to bring her best friend Roxy. It won't be easy to fight off Brock, but he's not her fated mate, though he is the one her father has required she marry to form an alliance between the families. Though she can be mouthy at times, something her father doesn't appreciate, she is also a bit more timid than I like my heroines to be. Still, it's a great place to start because it gives her so much room to grow that she can't help but blossom throughout the story.Yet, when Donovan enters the picture, all bets are off. Sure, he's attractive, and she can't help but be drawn to him. But he's also forbidden because he's human, and interspecies mating is against the rules. As he begins popping up at the most inopportune times, including in her classes, she discovers he is attracted to her too. While she makes new friends (of the vampire and dragon variety), she begins noticing the strange way Brock is acting and how hate-filled he is. Donovan doesn't seem to have that problem, which makes for some interesting and humorous interaction.Though they each fight the attraction, their bond continues to form and strengthen. When circumstances push them closer together, all hell breaks loose, and secrets none of them could have predicted come out, turning everyone's worlds upside down and putting them all in danger.Sadie continues to become stronger the further the story continues, and with the help of her smart-mouthed friend Roxy, she also overcomes obstacles she never saw coming. It makes for a story that has many exciting moments and a cliffhanger that leaves readers hungry for the next book.
